2023: INEC Opens Up On Extending Deadline For Party Primaries

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday maintained that it will not – for any reason – extend the deadline for the conduct of primaries as stipulated in the electoral calendar which was earlier released.

The electoral body had in a statement asserted the deadline remains ‘firm and fixed‘ for Friday, June 3.

It said political parties have ‘one month from today’ to conclude their primaries.

Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has displayed the forms of the incumbent Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the forthcoming election in the State, Godwin Obaseki, and those of 13 others.

The Commission displayed the particulars at its annex office, located at the former state secretariat of the PDP on Sapele Road in Benin, Edo State on Thursday.

Following the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s deregistration of 31 political parties, the leadership of the National Executive Committee (NEC), including the Board of Trustees (BOT) and other organs of the United Progressive Party (UPP), has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Independent National Electoral Commission has ruled out the demand for a fresh governorship election in Bayelsa State by the All Progressives Congress.

INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, on Sunday, said the commission had concluded its work on the Bayelsa State governorship poll on Friday when Certificate of Return was issued to Douye Diri.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has raised fears that the results and data of the 1999 and 2003 general elections were missing.

The commission’s National Commissioner on Election and Party Monitoring, Prof. Anthonia Okosi-Simbina made this known on Thursday.
