Independence: US Salutes Nigeria, Vows To Lend Support

The United States of America has sent a goodwill message to the Government and People of Nigeria on the 62nd independence anniversary of Nigeria on October 1, 2022.

US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said this in a statement issued on Saturday by the US Embassy in Abuja, made available to journalists.

US also pledged to support Nigeria’s war on terrorism.

Blinken in the statement said: ‘the partnership between our two countries is strong and is built on our shared values of democracy, diversity, and a spirit of entrepreneurship.

Spanish officials had last week revealed that Brahim Ghali, 73, is hospitalized in Spain for treatment of COVID-19.

Buhari said this at the unveiling of the theme and logo for Nigeria at 60 anniversary, themed, “Together.”

Bougainville Voters Back Independence By Landslide

Voters backing Bougainville’s independence from Papua New Guinea have won a landslide referendum victory, according to results released Wednesday — a major step toward the troubled isles becoming the world’s newest nation.

Chairman of the Bougainville Referendum Commission Bertie Ahern declared 176,928 people — around 98 percent of voters — had backed independence with just 3,043 supporting the option of remaining part of Papua New Guinea with more autonomy.
