Imo Journalists Stage Protest Against Incessant Attacks By Politicians

Some journalists in Imo state on Wednesday took to the streets of Owerri, the state capital, protesting against incessant attacks on members of the profession by some politicians in the state.

The protest, according to report, was led by Kelechi Ugo who is the weekend editor of EDGE EXPRESS newspapers in Imo state.

Our correspondent in the state reported that the journalists numbering up to fifty stormed the state House of Assembly complex, demanding that the speaker, Chiji Collins addresses the issue of the member representing Obowo state constituency, Kennedy Ibeh whose aides recently beat up a journalist, Finian Chuks.

Some Imo State House of Assembly members were on Tuesday shut out of the Assembly premises by security agents who claimed they were being owed up to 5 months allowance.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State on Wednesday said the state’s Palm Oil Producing Industry, ADAPALM, could employ about 35,000 people if fully revived.

The governor said this while on an inspection visit to the palm oil industry to have on-the-spot assessment of the state of affairs in the industry.

Mgbala Agwa community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo state has been thrown into tension following a clash between the military and the youths of the area.

Petty traders in Imo State have been blamed for inflating the prices of food items as a result of the proposed shutting down of markets on Sunday, today.

DAILY POST correspondent in the state who embarked on a vox pop across major markets in the state including Relief, Amakohia daily market, Nkwor-orji daily market among others, reported that buyers are paying through their noses as prices have skyrocketed.

At Relief market Saturday, according to our reporter, a paint of garri was sold at 1500 as against its normal price of 500 while a bag of rice was sold at N32,000.
