Breaking: SWAT Team Begins Training Monday – IGP Adamu

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, said his new Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) team will begin training on Monday, ignoring the din of protests across the country and hashtags of #EndSARS and #EndSWAT in cyber space.

Adamu made the announcement in a statement by deputy commissioner of police, Frank Mba Sunday.

Adamu said the new Police Tactical Team will operate within very high professional and ethical standards, rule of law and dictates of best international policing practices.

IGP Adamu Bans FSARS From Patrols, Checking Phones

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has banned policemen working for the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) from routine patrols.

Also affected by the ban are members of Tactical Squads of the Force including the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism Squad and other Tactical Squads operating at the Federal, Zonal and Command levels.

They have all been banned from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties – stop and search duties, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks, traffic checks, etc – with immediate effect.
