UCH Cancels ₦1,000 Daily Electricity Bill For Patients After Backlash

The University College Hospital, Ibadan has openly announced that it has withdrawn its controversial memo which had mandated some of the patients who were using the health facility to pay a sum of ₦1,000 per day for electricity bills.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that an internal memo, had mandated that each of the patient using the facility is to pay ₦1,000 on a daily basis. The management of the tertiary health institution said that it took the decision due to erratic supply of electricity in the facility.

Rapists struck again in Sasa area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, killing another female student, Grace Oshiagwu, after molesting.

The 21-year old Grace was said to be a National Diploma (ND) I student of Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, Oyo State.

Gunmen Kill APC Chieftain In Ibadan

Some gunmen suspected to be assassins on Wednesday, killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Oyo state, Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan.

Oreitan, who is one of the leaders of the party in Ona Ara Local Government, was said to have been killed by the gunmen Wednesday afternoon.

Sources said the APC chieftain was murdered in his house located at Oremeji Agugu area of Ibadan.

Two Died, Three Injured On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Two pedestrians were killed by an Honda SUV Jeep which drove against the traffic around Ibafo area on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Christmas Day.
Mr Clement Oladele, Ogun Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that three others were injured in the accident.

Oladele said that a Honda Element SUV Jeep, with registration number, KSF 946 DB, drove against the traffic and knocked down two pedestrians waiting to board a commercial bus, killing them instantly and injuring three others.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Friday ordered stoppage of work at Omi-Adio Railway Station under construction on Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line over compromise of standards by the contractor.

Robbers Invade Ibadan Cmmunity; 1 Dead, Several Injured

A yet to be identified night guard was allegedly killed by armed robbers in Oju-irin, Akobo area of Ibadan on Saturday when robbers numbering about 15 invaded the community.
The News Agency of Nigerian(NAN) reports that several others including a couple and 12 night guards sustained various degrees of injuries during the robbery.

The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun State on Saturday said that a man died while nine other passengers sustained various degrees of injuries in an accident on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway.

Two persons were confirmed dead while 10 others sustained injuries in an accident involving a Mazda bus at Danliti Ayetoro area on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway .Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Spokesperson, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Monday.

Akinbiyi explained that the accident occurred around 11am, saying that it was caused by excessive speeding which led to loss of control.

How reckless driver caused Ibadan tanker fire

Details emerged yesterday about  how a reckless car driver triggered the fire incident  that claimed the lives of  three people, three cars and more than 10 motorcycles in Ibadan during the week.

Also destroyed in  the fire incident were kiosks belonging to a motorcycle seller and a lottery operator.  The havoc wreaked by the incident according to eyewitnesses  would have been worse but for the quick removal of vehicles in a  nearby car wash. Fuel tanker fire in Ibadan kills 2, destroys cars

A tanker laden with petrol on Thursday fell and caught fire claiming two lives and burning four vehicles at Iwo road area of Ibadan around 3:00 p.m.

An eye witness, AbdulAzeez Hammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the tanker which fell and spilled its content, razed no fewer than four vehicles.
