Mike Pompeo Subpoenaed By House Democrats Over Trump’s Case

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been ordered by Democrats to turn over documents relating to the Trump administration’s dealings with Ukraine.

In a letter, the heads of three House committees subpoenaed Mr. Mike Pompeo to produce the documents within a week.

It is the latest move in rapidly escalating impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

He is being scrutinised for pushing Ukraine’s president to investigate his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

In a separate development on Friday, the US special envoy for Ukraine negotiations, Kurt Volker, resigned, according to US media reports.

The House Committee Chairman on Aviation, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, has lauded the offer of free airlift of the Nigerian victims of xenophobia attacks in South Africa back home by the Chairman of the Air Peace Airlines, Allen Onyema.

Nnaji, described the gesture as patriotic and also noted that with that singular act, Onyema has demonstrated, “a true spirit of Africanism which compels us to be our brothers’ keeper.”

The House of Representatives was thrown into a rowdy session yesterday as lawmakers were engaged in altercations over the call on the federal government to release the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shi’ite, Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky and to ban the sect.

The US House on Friday approved $19.1 billion in disaster relief to help hard-hit communities like Puerto Rico, but President Donald Trump opposes the package which faces party bickering over funding.

On the eve of the vote in the Democratic-controlled chamber, Trump urged Republicans to reject the “BAD DEMOCRAT Disaster Supplemental Bill” and continue negotiating on the emergency package aimed at providing recovery assistance to Americans affected by storms, wildfires and floods.

APGA wins 24 of 30 House of Assembly seats in Anambra

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won 26 of the 30 seats in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won six of the seats, leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties in the state without any seat.

The duo of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige and the senator representing Anambra South zone and state Shairman, President Buhari Campaign Council, Senator Andy Uba, failed to win any seat for the APC.

Oyo House of Reps member shot dead in Ibadan

The member representing Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency, Hon. Temitope Olatoye Sugar, was shot dead in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital during the election on Saturday.

He died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. He was confirmed dead by the Head of Public Relations of the hospital, Mr Toye Akinrinlola, at 8:20 pm.
