Jailed Harvey Weinstein Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Harvey Weinstein, disgraced Hollywood mogul in prison in northern New York state, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, US media reported Sunday.

Harvey Weinstein, 68, is spending 23 years in jail for rape and sexual assault.

The fallen film producer’s diagnosis was first reported Sunday evening by local paper the Niagara Gazette.

Weinstein’s spokespeople have declined to comment to US media on the subject.

The New York state Department of Corrections has not confirmed the reports.

Weinstein was transferred Wednesday to a prison near Buffalo, 350 miles (560 kilometres) northwest of New York City.

Harvey Weinstein’s conviction for rape and sexual assault was a “great victory” for women and sends a “very strong message”, US President Donald Trump said Tuesday.

Jurors in ex-Hollywood titan Harvey Weinstein’s high-profile sex crimes trial ended their first day of deliberations Tuesday without reaching a verdict in the case seen as a watershed in the #MeToo movement.

The disgraced movie mogul, 67, faces life in prison if the jury of seven men and five women convict him of a variety of sexual misconduct charges in New York.

Prosecutors on Friday accused Harvey Weinstein of abusing his power as a Hollywood mogul to prey on women, as his high-profile #MeToo rape trial draws to a close.
