Governor Babagana Umara of Borno State has said that the war against Boko Haram may not end soon, as the terrorists have started deploying drones to monitor military operations in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.

The insurgency-affected states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe have lost many lives and property in the last decade.

Umara raised the alarm yesterday at the Government House, Maiduguri, while briefing the House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other National Assembly members on the security situation in the state.

Army colonel, captain, others killed in Boko Haram clash

A colonel, captain and three other soldiers of the Nigeria Army were kiled Wednesday in a clash with Boko Haram in Maiduguri, Borno State.

“A Colonel and a Captain, as well as 3 soldiers on transit from Maiduguri to Damaturu, run into an ambush staged by the routed/fleeing terrorists from the Jakana axis which led to their unfortunate death,” an army spokesman Ado Isa said.

Isa said that the troops of 212 Battalion at Forward Operating Base (FOB), Jakana, neutralised an unconfirmed number of Boko Haram, ISWAP terrorist who attempted to infiltrate the army base in need of logistics.

Toll from Boko Haram attack in Cameroon rises to 37

An attack by Boko Haram jihadists in northern Cameroon last weekend left 37 dead, a security official in the region said Wednesday, revising the toll upward.

“As of today, we have 21 military and 16 civilian fatalities,” the source said.

Nigeria’s opposition People’s Democratic Party senator-elects Tuesday backed Ali Ndume, alleged to have links to a man accused of being a spokesman of Boko Haram, for the ninth Senate president.

Ndume was nominated as a candidate for the office of the Senate president by the Isiaku Elijah Cliff, a PDP senator representing Adamawa North nominates, while Mpigi Barinda also a PDP senator representing Rivers South-East seconded the motion.

Boko Haram attacks Damaturu

Boko Haram on Tuesday evening launched a daring attack on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The attack forced the town into a lockdown as vehicles were not allowed in or out of the town.

Many of the residents were forced to stay in door as the military engaged the insurgents, who were said to have tried to gain entry into the town through Maisandari, on the outskirts of the town.

The 112 Chibok girls still being held by Boko Haram will   have spent five years in captivity if they are not released by next Sunday.

Over 200 students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State were abducted by the terrorists on the night of April 14, 2014.
