Zimbabwe: Government Reduces Farm Sizes

Government has streamlined the sizes of all individual farms in the country’s five ecological regions, in a move that will see more people having access to land.

The reduction in farm sizes will also boost capacity utilisation of land following concerns that some farms were unnecessarily big and underutilised.

Government compulsorily acquired over 12 million hectares of arable land previously occupied by white farmers, resulting in some black beneficiaries getting vast swathes of land they cannot put to effective use.

The downsizing of farms, which has been ongoing, starts with recommendations from the respective provincial lands committees.

A Curious Cabal In Government

In apparent confirmation of the fears expressed at different levels and fora by Nigerians, the presidency has at last confirmed that the Buhari administration is curiously run with the assistance of a cabal. Mallam Garba Shehu, a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, asserted the other day that there indeed had been a group of unofficial advisers working with the president whom he called ‘‘kitchen cabinet,’’ branded by the Nigerian media as a cabal. He justified the practice and virtually berated the media for being sensational in reporting the cabal matter. No matter how nicely

Gov. Dapo Abiodun And His Inclusive Government

During the 2019 guber elections, some political forces came together to make sure the Apc candidate Dapo Abiodun won and became the governor of Ogun state. The state was turned to a battle ground, because the Governor at the time Gov. Ibikunle Amosun favoured the Apm candidate Adekunle Akinlade while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo favoured Abiodun. The ruling party broke into two factions and their power tussle turned very violent and some party faithful’s on both sides lost their lives. French Government, Unions Exchange Barbs In Strike Deadlock

The French government and a key trade union on Sunday exchanged bitter accusations over who was to blame for France’s over three-week transport strike against pension reforms, as the stalemate showed little sign of relenting.

Deputy Transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Djebbari accused the hardline CGT union of a “systematic opposition to any reform” while the union’s chief Philippe Martinez charged the government with strewing “chaos” in the conflict.

The strike — now longer than the notorious 22-day strike of winter 1995 — has lasted 25 days and is on course to surpass the longest transport strike in France which lasted for

Ugandan Government To Borrow More $1.89b

Uganda says it planned to borrow 1.89 billion dollars (6.9 trillion shillings) from external lenders in the 2020/2021 (July-June) fiscal year to partly finance its budget.

This could come under pressure as veteran leader Yoweri Museveni seeks re-election.

A finance ministry budget paper on Monday showed that the funds would be in the “form of concessional and non-concessional” credit.

The paper did not indicate how much was borrowed in the previous financial year.

It also did not indicate from whom the money would be borrowed, but in recent years China has

Ikpeazu-Led Government Showing Wickedness To Abia People

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) and the 2019 governorship candidate of the party in Abia State, Alex Otti has expressed dismay over the continued impoverishment of people of the State with draconian policies of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration.

This came as the State chairman of APGA, Hon. Nkem Okoro, had in a statement during the week, carpeted the Abia government on the non payment of State workers, saying that it was both unlawful and ungodly to do otherwise given the amount of money the government receives every month.

However, Otti, who spoke in a press statement issued
