Custom Impounds Goods Worth ₦995,539,642.00 Within 2 Months

 The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) anti-smuggling teams in Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command have impounded several prohibited goods with/AK47 worth about  ₦995,539,642.00  within three months.
    The Public Relations Officer (PRO) in charge of the Command,Mr. Magaji Mailafiya who confirmed the seizure in a statement made available on Tuesday to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi disclosed that the smuggled items included AK47 ,sex enhancement drugs and gallons of vegetable oil.

The federal government has accused the Republic of Benin of being recalcitrant in its importation of prohibited goods for ultimate dumping into Nigeria’s market in spite of the partial border closure order.

Customs seize 875 bags of rice, other goods worth ₦40m

The Customs Service, Seme Border Area Command, says it has intercepted 875 bags of foreign parboiled rice and other goods, valued at N40m, in two weeks.

ASC Nuruddeen Saidu, the Customs Public Relations Officer, Seme, Area Command, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, in Lagos.

The statement quoted that the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Mohammed Garba, as saying that the efforts of the enforcement unit of the Command, with regard to suppression of smuggling, was yielding remarkable results.

Goods worth millions of naira were on Tuesday destroyed by fire at the popular GSM Village in Cantonment, Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

The cause of the fire incident, which razed about 26 shops, was yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report on Tuesday.

Customs confiscates rice, other goods worth ₦47m in Lagos

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Strike Force Zone ‘A’ has intercepted 2,494 bags of 50kg parboiled rice, 1288 jerrycans of vegetable oil and assorted cars with Duty Paid Value of N47million in one month.

The Officer in Charge of CGC strike force Zone ‘A’ Deputy Comptroller (DC)  Yahaya Biu, made the disclosure to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.

Biu said the goods were intercepted in various locations in the zone.

A heavy downpour on Wednesday night in Aba, the commercial city of Abia, has left many homes, shops and markets submerged by flood.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that goods estimated at over N15 million were also destroyed by the flood.

At Ahia Ohuru (New Market), over 25 shops on Lines 10, 16, 20, 43, 44 and 47 were all submerged.

Mr Obinna Ogugua, a trader in the market, was said to have lost 32 bales of clothes, worth about N2.9 million.
