Trump Threatens Intelligence Block Over Huawei

The United States’ ambassador to Germany said Sunday that President Donald Trump had threatened to cut off intelligence-sharing with countries that dealt with Chinese tech firm Huawei.

Washington has been pressing allies to ban Huawei, one of the world’s largest tech firms, from next-generation 5G mobile data networks, saying it is a security risk.

Ambassador Richard Grenell said Trump “instructed me to make clear that any nation who chooses to use an untrustworthy 5G vendor will jeopardize our ability to share intelligence and information at the highest level.”

Timo Werner warns there is more to come from RB Leipzig, who enter the Bundesliga winter break in first place after coming from behind to claim a 3-1 home win against Augsburg on Saturday.

The German league is put on hold for a month from Sunday onwards and Leipzig’s hard-fought home win left them two points clear in the table.

“Many teams do not yet know what we are capable of – we can do much more,” warned Germany striker Werner, who has scored 18 goals in 17 league games.

Leipzig fell behind after just eight minutes when Augsburg’s top-scoring …

Germany Kicks Out Russian Diplomats Over Berlin Murder

Germany expelled two Russian diplomats on Wednesday after prosecutors said Moscow could be behind the killing of a former Chechen rebel commander in a Berlin park.

Russia’s foreign ministry immediately pledged unspecified “retaliatory measures”, saying the accusations were “groundless and hostile”.

Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a 40-year-old Georgian national, was shot twice in the head at close range in Kleiner Tiergarten park on August 23, allegedly by a Russian man who was arrested shortly afterwards.

The suspect in the killing was said to be riding a bicycle and was seen by witnesses afterwards throwing the bike and a stone-laden bag with a …

Medical Worker On Trial In Germany For Six Murders

A Polish healthcare assistant accused of killing six people under his care with insulin overdoses went on trial in Germany on Tuesday.
The case has brought back memories of Niels Hoegel, a German nurse sentenced to life in prison earlier this year for murdering 85 patients.

The defendant on trial in Munich, who has been named by prosecutors only as Grzegorz Stanislaw W., 38, is also accused of three attempted murders.

The man had access to insulin because he has diabetes — unlike his patients. He has also been charged

Germany has secured qualification for Euro 2020, but coach Joachim Loew is running out of time to mould his fledgling team into title contenders before next June’s finals.

As magazine Kicker pointed out, the victory highlighted the “many obvious sites” under reconstruction.

By Loew’s pre-match admission, “many players still need a few more years to develop”, yet the Euro finals start in seven months.

Germany’s Far-Right AfD Makes Gains In State Elections

Alternative for Germany (AfD) party more than doubled its share of the vote but failed to become the largest party in the German state of Thuringia, in an election widely seen as a bellwether of the far-right party’s growing strength in its eastern heartlands.

The AfD overtook Chancellor Angela Merkel’s slumping Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to receive 24 percent of the vote, according to exit polls by public broadcaster ARD, finishing behind socialist Linke on 30 percent, which made history by becoming the first left-wing party to win a state election in reunified Germany.

– Russia book Euro 2020 spot as Netherlands edge closer to finals

Ilkay Gundogan scored a fortuitous brace and set up Timo Werner as Germany beat Estonia 3-0 in Tallinn on Sunday despite Emre Can’s early dismissal, taking them a step closer to Euro 2020 qualification.

Northern Ireland’s 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands on Thursday meant Germany could put a three-point cushion between themselves and Michael O’Neill’s men with a win and they just about did enough to prevail in spite of an awkward start.

Any chance of Germany repeating their 8-0 demolition of Estonia vanished with Can’s early red …
