Italy’s President Storms Mozambique To Discuss Gas Supplies

In an effort to minimize Rome’s dependency on Russia, Italian President Sergio Mattarella met with his Mozambican colleague Filipe Nyusi on Tuesday in Maputo to discuss gas supply.

Prior to the start of an offshore gas project operated by the Italian energy company Eni in the north of Mozambique, which has been ravaged by insurgency, Mattarella welcomed energy cooperation between the two nations during the visit.

France Goes After Full Gas Reserves As Russia Cuts Supplies

The French government has asserted that it aims to have its natural gas reserves at full capacity by autumn as European countries brace for supply cuts from major supplier Russia with the Ukraine war drags on.

‘We are ensuring the complete filling of our storage capacities, aiming to be close to 100 percent by early autumn,’ Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne claimed.

She added that France will also build a new floating terminal to receive more gas supplies by ship.

Kano Explosion: Buhari Sends Message To Victims’ Families

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with families over loss of lives in the Sabon Gari, Kano, gas explosion in which nine people reportedly lost their lives.

The President also ordered officials to provide adequate treatment for the injured persons.

‘The gas explosion in Kano is very sad. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I wish the injured people a speedy recovery,’ said the President.

Fresh Gas Explosion In Old Havana Injures Three

A gas explosion in Havana injured three people yesterday exaclty in the same neighbourhood where a similar blast that left 44 dead and destroyed an iconic hotel was reported last week, authorities have confirmed.

The victims were a father and son and a neighbour, local official Yamila Velazquez told state television.

“The child’s father had flipped the switch and there was an explosion. A neighbour suffered injuries to her legs and arms,” Velazquez said, adding that the three victims were taken to a hospital by neighbours while the fire brigade cut off the neighbourhood’s gas supply.

Among other things, the Federal Government is working towards the production of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel to the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol this year.
