Ugandan government has released 20 billion shillings (about 5.5 million U.S. dollars) for emergency response after deadly landslides and floods hit parts of the east African country.

Musa Ecweru, minister of state for relief, disaster preparedness and refugees, on Friday said the funds have been released under the ‘life-saving and rescue’ phase to address the landslides situation in the mountainous areas and in flooding areas.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has said his administration would not tolerate any attempt to create distractions in attempts to unravel the case of the N5bn alleged to have been shared among former lawmakers in the state.

Abdulrazaq also said no government official would be spared if proven to have committed infractions against the law.

Three years after the authorities finalised plans to embark on the redevelopment of Adeniji Adele, one of the fast approaching slums communities in Lagos Central Business District, it appears the project has hit the brick walls due to the paucity of funds.
The Adeniji Adele redevelopment project was first identified for regeneration during the Raji Fashola administration. The project conceived by the state’s urban renewal authority was meant to be developed through exclusive state funding, however, a Public Private Participation approach was introduced in 2016.

Aviation Minister, Senator Hadi Sirika, informed the Senate yesterday that the much completion of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, depends on the time the Federal Government releases money for it.

He, however, expressed optimism that the project would be completed by April 2020, “if the money is released now.”

₦900b probe: Senators, Reps to return fake projects funds

Investigators are hitting the road today in search of lawmakers’ ₦900b constituency projects in states.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is verifying constituency projects executed by immediate past senators and members of the House of Representatives.

The commission said it will make recoveries on projects/contracts confirmed to have been inflated or in which contractors underperformed or did not perform at all.

To be verified are 180 key projects in the 36 states at the rate of five per state.

New regulations to protect local govt funds from governor

Local governments financial autonomy is set for a major boost — courtesy of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

The agency yesterday banned banks, governors,  financial institutions, public officers and other stakeholders from tampering with the statutory allocations of Local Government Areas from the Federation Account.
