Nigeria Withholding $450m Belonging To Foreign Airlines -IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has revealed that Nigeria is holding back about $450 million in revenue earned by foreign airlines operating in the country.

Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, IATA, Kamil Al Awadhi, made the remark yesterday at the opening of its 78th annual general meeting and world air transport summit in Doha, Qatar.

‘A financially viable air transport sector supports jobs and must be a driving force for Africa and the Middle East economic recovery from COVID-19,’ Al Awadhi said.

Foreign Countries Protecting Diezani – EFCC Boss, Magu

Mr Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has alleged that some foreign countries were sabotaging the commission’s efforts at repatriating a former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke.

He stated this on Wednesday during an official visit to the Ibadan zonal office of the commission.

EFCC had in the last five years been on the trail of the former minister over alleged corrupt practices.

The federal government’s border closure, increased surveillance by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Anchors Borrowers Programme (ABP) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have dropped the volume of foreign rice in Nigerian markets.

A report released on Sunday by Economic Confidential puts the figure at 37 percent, down from 70 percent as at March/April 2019.

Border Closure: Customs Seize 42 Bags Of Foreign Rice

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it has intercepted 42 bags of foreign rice at Kankara axis of Katsina State.

The Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Mr Sunday James, who disclosed this in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Saturday in Abuja, said that it was concealed in a vehicle.

James said that the officers were on routine patrol along the Kankara axis when they apprehended a vehicle carrying the contraband.

Foreign investors cut their participation in Nigerian government bond auctions last year, buying just 4.39 per cent of all bonds issued compared with the previous year when they bought 10.99 per cent, a debt office presentation showed.

Austria’s foreign ministry is facing a “serious cyber attack”, it said late Saturday, warning another country could be responsible.

Foreign Affairs Reacts To Eviction Of Nigerian Commission

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that the Nigerian High Commission has not been evicted from its diplomatic property in Ghana.

NANS Declares War On Politicians Sharing Foreign Rice

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Monday said it is ready to embark on foreign rice hunt, with a threat to deal with any politician in possession of the imported rice.

NANS said any foreign rice found in the coffers of politicians during this festive period shall be combatantly taken over and shared to both students and orphanage homes.
