Mourinho Slams VAR: ‘I Don’t Like Today’s Football’

Jose Mourinho has launched a fresh attack on modern officiating, voicing his frustration at the growing influence of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in football. The Portuguese manager, known for his outspoken nature, lamented the way goals are being ruled out for what he sees as trivial offences, arguing that technology is taking the spotlight away from players and undermining the essence of the game.

Speaking in typically forthright fashion, Mourinho said: “I don’t like the current state of football, where goals are disallowed for a simple shirt pull or a minor foot contact. The main actors in matches are …

Ballon d’Or Winner To Stay Secret Until Ceremony Night

The Ballon d’Or, football’s most prestigious individual honor, will once again carry an air of suspense right up until the envelope is opened. Organizers have confirmed that the winner of the 2025 edition will not be notified in advance, continuing a rule introduced last year to heighten anticipation and protect the secrecy of the award.

For decades, speculation around the Ballon d’Or often came with leaks or early confirmations that dulled the sense of occasion. Traditionally, journalists, insiders, and even players themselves would hear whispers of the outcome well before the official ceremony. That practice has now been firmly stamped …

How Bayern Nearly Stole Barcelona’s Teenage Jewel

How Bayern Nearly Stole Barcelona’s Teenage Jewel

In football, there are moments when the future of a club can pivot on a single decision, a handshake not made, a conversation cut short. For Barcelona, one such moment arrived in 2022, when Bayern Munich thought they were on the verge of prising away a 14-year-old prodigy by the name of Lamine Yamal.

At the time, Yamal was already whispered about in Catalonia as something rare — a left-footed forward with balance, daring, and a maturity that belied his age. Bayern, eager to secure the brightest young talents before their price skyrocketed, believed they had a deal within …

Mbappé Five Goals From Becoming France’s All-Time Top Scorer

Kylian Mbappé is within touching distance of a milestone that will etch his name even deeper into the history of French football. With 47 international goals already to his name, the 26-year-old is now just five shy of Olivier Giroud’s all-time record of 52 — a mark many once thought might stand for decades.

Giroud’s achievement was built on persistence and longevity. Over more than a decade with Les Bleus, the striker scored consistently, often quietly, and eventually surpassed Thierry Henry’s total to become France’s most prolific marksman. But Mbappé, with his extraordinary pace, composure, and ability to deliver in …

Europe Mulls Finishing Football Season At End Of Year

Europe’s football bosses have not given up hope of finishing this pandemic-hit season — even if it might have to be done at the start of the next one.

The novel coronavirus has created an existential challenge to the world’s most widely played and watched sport.

Europe’s football leagues are the planet’s richest and can afford to pay the most money to the biggest stars.

But that system could come crumbling down quickly if there is nothing to show on TV.

Cristian Ronaldo has not had a chance to celebrate goals for Juventus for nearly three weeks because Italy’s Serie …

Football Braced For Financial Impact From Coronavirus Hit

Domestic club football across much of Europe has been halted completely due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Germany following France, England and Scotland in suspending their competitions on Friday, while UEFA has postponed Champions League and Europa League games due to be played next week.

Numerous countries had been initially planning to carry on playing matches behind closed doors, following the example of several Champions League and Europa League games this midweek, but that was not to everyone’s liking.

“My opinion is that all competitions should be suspended. In China they have been more responsible than they have been …

FC Cologne Scraps China Football Academy

German Bundesliga club FC Cologne has pulled out of a football academy in China, with one senior official saying “human rights are massively disrespected” in the country.

Cologne had been slated to run the school for young footballers in Shenyang, northeast China, for 1.8 million euros ($2.0 million).

“Other forms of possible co-operation, for example sponsoring from Chinese companies, hasn’t been ruled out,” he added.

Paul Amann, founder of Liverpool’s LGBT supporters’ club Kop Outs, then undertook a fact-finding mission to Doha along with his husband in November at the invitation of the World Cup organisers.
