Following Protest, Soyinka Centre Postpone Osinbajo’s Award

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) has postponed the planned presentation of an award to the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo after the news generated protests on social media. Osinbajo was slated to be presented with an Integrity award as part of the 2019 Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting scheduled to hold on Monday, December 9 in Lagos.

Executive Director/CEO of the Centre, Motunrayo Alaka, in a statement on Monday announcing the postponement, said the “Vice President himself shares this awareness and the inappropriateness of the award at this point.”

Following Bullying Incident, FUTA Suspends 6

Authorities of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has ordered the indefinite suspension of six female students of the university for allegedly bullying another female student.

A statement issued by the Deputy Director, Corporate Communication of the university, Mr Adegbenro Adebanjo, indicated that the students were found wanting after investigations on the matter.

Patrick Day Dies Following Brutal Knockout

American boxer, Patrick Day, died on Wednesday in Chicago as a result of the traumatic brain injury he suffered during his fight on Saturday, where he was knocked out by Charles Conwell in the 10th round.

Day, 27, had been in a coma for four days following his defeat and, in spite of having emergency brain surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, doctors were unable to save the junior middleweight.
