SA: Rescue Team Searching For Boy, 9, Swept Away By Flood

As heavy rains lashed parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday afternoon, rescue services were frantically searching for a schoolboy who was swept into a flooded river.

IPSS Rescue’s Dylan Meyerick said teams were searching the Nonoti River in Darnall, on the KZN north coast, for the missing nine-year-old

“Rescue teams have been in the water … looking for a nine-year-old who was walking home from school and got washed off a low-level bridge,” he said.

Meyerick said rescuers had called for a sniffer dog to help them.

Four days of uninterrupted rain has sacked at least 40 villages in five local government areas of Adamawa State, destroying valuables estimated in millions of naira.

Flood Displaces Over 100 Villages In Adamawa

Dr Muhammad Sulaiman, the Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), has confirmed that over 100 villages in seven local government areas in the state had been displaced by flood.
Sulaiman told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Yola that the incident was “worst disaster ever experienced in the state”.
He called for emergency assistance from the Federal Government and other humanitarian organisations.

A heavy downpour on Wednesday night in Aba, the commercial city of Abia, has left many homes, shops and markets submerged by flood.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that goods estimated at over N15 million were also destroyed by the flood.

At Ahia Ohuru (New Market), over 25 shops on Lines 10, 16, 20, 43, 44 and 47 were all submerged.

The US has reportedly blocked €2.5 million flood aid relief to Iran, an Iranian Parliament Member Hossein Naghavi Hosseini said on Sunday.

As the MP quoted head of Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) as saying in a meeting at the Parliament, the US has obstructed €2.5 million aid from International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to flood-stricken towns and villages.
