A court in Cyprus on Monday found a British teenager guilty of falsely claiming she was gang-raped by a group of Israeli tourists in a case that prompted allegations of police mistreatment.

The 19-year-old was convicted of “public mischief”, which carries a sentence of up to one year in prison and a fine of around 1,700 euros. Sentencing was adjourned until January 7.

The defendant, who pleaded not guilty, alleged that 12 Israelis raped her on July 17 at a hotel in Ayia Napa.

Career policeman André Kay’s 81-year-old mother heard 10 shots being fired outside their Bishop Lavis home on Thursday morning. When she went to investigate, she came across her son’s bullet-ridden body in their driveway.

Kay’s niece Kim Kay said her grandmother was beside herself with grief.

“The two of them had lived alone. She is so traumatised,” Kim told News24.

The lieutenant colonel was declared dead at the scene.

Qantas Finds Cracks In Three Of Its Boeing 737 NG Planes

Australian airline Qantas Airways Ltd has found structural cracks in three of its Boeing Co 737 NG planes after conducting earlier-than-required checks of its aircraft, as part of a global issue with the model.

“Of the 33 of Qantas’ 737 aircraft that required inspection, three were found to have a hairline crack in the pickle fork structure. These aircraft have been removed from service for repair,” Qantas said in a statement on Friday.

The “pickle fork” is the part that attaches the plane’s fuselage, or body, to the wing structure.

The vast majority of Japanese voters back allowing women to inherit the Chrysanthemum Throne, a new polls shows, as the royal family struggles with a dearth of male heirs.

The survey, conducted in the wake of last week’s enthronement proclamation ceremony for Emperor Naruhito, found 81.9 percent favour Japan having a woman take the throne, with 13.5 percent opposed.

The Kyodo News agency poll, carried out over the weekend, comes as there is renewed debate about succession in the royal family, with inheritance of the throne limited by law to male members of the imperial line.

There are currently
