Manchester United delivered a potentially fatal blow to Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes on Saturday after leaders Liverpool secured the Christmas number one spot with victory against Bournemouth.

Defending champions City came into the match at the Etihad Stadium knowing they had to win after Jurgen Klopp’s men coasted to a 3-0 victory on England’s south coast but they succumbed to United’s lightning-quick attacks, losing 2-1.

Earlier, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham blitzed Burnley 5-0, with Son Heung-min scoring a sensational individual goal, while fourth-placed Chelsea went down 3-1 to Everton at Goodison Park.

Cannavaro Boost As Guangzhou Win Feisty China Title Clash

Fabio Cannavaro revived his chances of holding onto his job at Guangzhou Evergrande as his side went two points clear at the top of the Chinese Super League on Saturday with two games left.

Brazilian Anderson Talisca scored a goal in each half in an ill-tempered 2-0 home win over title rivals and reigning champions Shanghai SIPG.

Evergrande are top of the CSL on 66 points with Beijing Guoan second on 64 and SIPG on 62. All three have played 28 games.

Manchester City had her nerves calmed by Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling on Saturday as the Premier League champions overcame a searching test to beat feisty Everton 3-1 and keep leaders Liverpool in their sights.
