One of the World bests, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has announced that he is set to retire after next week’s Laver Cup after he had admitted on Thursday that his battles with a knee problem had forced him to call time on his historic career.

“The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event,” he said in a statement posted on social media.

Tennis superstars Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal jointly donated Aus$250,000 (US$172,000) for Australian bushfire relief at a charity fundraiser in smoggy Melbourne on Wednesday.

The two tennis legends, with 39 Grand Slam singles titles between them, were at the Rod Laver Arena in a bid to swell the vast sums already donated to help victims of the devastating disaster.

Tennis great Roger Federer is to become the first living Swiss to have a coin minted in their honour, with a commemorative 20 franc (£16) silver piece bearing his image being issued in January.

The 38-year-old 20-time Grand Slam champion is regarded by many as the greatest tennis player ever and is a national hero in Switzerland.

Tsitsipas Stuns Federer In Semi-finals Of ATP Finals

Debutant Stefanos Tsitsipas caused a major shock by ending Roger Federer’s chances of landing a record-extending seventh ATP Finals to reach Sunday’s showpiece.

The Swiss master, who was aiming to reach Sunday’s showpiece of the ATP Finals for an 11th time and first since 2015, was bettered by the young pupil from Greece as Tsitsipas landed a breathtaking 6-3 6-4 victory to make it through to the final.

Tsitsipas is now the third debutant (after Grigor Dimitriv and David Goffin to reach the final of the ATP finals in London.
