Caverton Beg FG For Release Of Pilots Detained By Wike

Caverton Helicopters has appealed to the Federal Government to prevail on Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to release its two pilots.

The pilots, Samuel Ugorji and Samuel Buhari, were remanded at the Port Harcourt Custodial Centre on Tuesday.

They were docked before a magistrate court.

The Court presided over by Ihua-Maduenyi adjourned the case till 19 May for commencement of trial.

The judge also ruled that COVID-19 tests be carried out on the two pilots to ascertain their status.

Nigerian Govt Set To Evacuate Nigerians Stranded Abroad

Nigeria’s Federal Government is set to evacuate stranded Nigerians abroad in the wake of ravaging Coronavirus pandemic in the world.

On this note, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed all its missions abroad to compile lists of willing nationals who wanted to come back home.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, said the move was sequel to requests by Nigerians stranded abroad in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

She, however, said that the MFA had instructed that “the financial implications will be borne by the prospective evacuees, who will be compulsorily quarantined when they returned”.

Lockdown Rules Relaxed For Food Stores In Lagos, Abuja

The Federal Government has relaxed open and close rules for markets, supermarkets and food stores in Lagos, Abuja FCT and Ogun, where a lockdown has been imposed.

They will be allowed to open between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm daily.

The National Co-ordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Aliyu Sani, said this on Wednesday during a briefing by members of the task force.

“For markets, only shops and stalls selling food and groceries shall be allowed to open to customers between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm,” he said.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said it has reached concrete proposals with the Federal Government on the ongoing warning strike embarked upon by the union.
