CVR: Online Registration Remains Suspended, INEC Clarifies

Following several weeks of complaints about hitches experienced in the online registration of voters, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday announced that the portal has been shut.

In a briefing in Abuja before the Youth Vote Count Mega Music Concert recently, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Federal Capital Territory, Yahaya Bello, provided the clarification.

Bello questioned why Nigerians continue to flock to the commission’s website despite a warning from the commission last month that it will stop accepting online registrations on May 30.

The police command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has arrested 51 suspected looters and recovered some stolen items at Jabi-Daki-biu, Idu Industrial Estate Karim area.

Mr. Bala Ciroma, the FCT Commissioner of Police, made the disclosure at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.

Ciroma said that the operation that led to the arrest was necessitated by the looting and destruction of public and private warehouses in Abuja by some suspected hoodlums.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministerial Task Team on Enforcement of COVID-19 Restriction on Tuesday, sealed-off Pacific Hotel and Guest Inn for violating the Presidential ban on hotels operation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
