Extreme Surfers Catch Record Waves In Portuguese Town

Big wave surfers have been flocking to a formerly sleepy Portuguese fishing town, chasing monster waves that are some of the highest ever surfed.

Earlier this month the news broke that a set of fearsome 20-metre (65-feet) waves were coming to the small town of Nazare on Portugal’s Atlantic coast.

The message spread like wildfire and soon extreme surfers and sports fans — as well as keen photographers — arrived at the town’s Praia de Norte beach.

Extreme Food Shortage Hits Mozambique

About 3,000 people in Dombe, Central Mozambique, are dealing with extreme food shortages after crops were ruined by Cyclone Idai in March.

Local official, Tomas Razao said that some people were surviving on wild roots and seasonal fruits.

The cyclone followed a period of drought, which created tough weather conditions for crops to grow in.

Any crops that did manage to flourish – like grain and vegetables – were then destroyed by the cyclone.

Nearly 100 Million Nigerians now living in extreme poverty

Over 91 million Nigerians are now living in extreme poverty, according to the report of World Poverty Clock, a Vienna, Austria-based data lab The report said at least three million Nigerians have slipped into extreme poverty between November 2018 and February 2019. According to the report, 91.16 million Nigerians were living below a dollar a day as of February 13, 2019.
