NERC, CBN Consider Ways To Monitor Electricity Market Fund

In a bid to curb the poor remittances of power market funds by distribution companies, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is to set up mechanisms to rectify the Discos’ unruly financial behaviours by monitoring the monthly financial inflows into the country’s power market from the power distribution firms, journalists learnt at the weekend.

According to a source, a new Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and NERC-driven presidential initiative on power market revenue would be rolled out soon to ensure that the Discos no longer default in their minimum monthly remittances to the market.

GenCos Release 3,480 MWH Of Electricity To National Grid

Electricity Generation Companies (GenCos), comprising gas-fired and hydro stations said they released an average of 3,480 MegaWatts of electricity into the national grid on Sunday.

This is contained in a daily energy report by the Advisory Power Team, office of the Vice President a copy of which was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.

The report said that the electricity sent out by the GenCos was up by 254.02 megawatts from the 3,226 released on Saturday.

It, however, said that 1,720 megawatts could not be generated due to unavailability of gas.

The Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Regulation, which came into force on April 3, 2018, enabled the creation of the Meter Asset Providers (MAPs) – a new set of service providers, to fast-track the closure of the metering gap currently affecting over five million customers in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). Besides, the metering scheme will ensure that electricity customers only pay for what they actually consume.

UNN sets record of electricity generation with waste

The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has in Nigeria, set the record of electricity generation by using organic waste to install 100KVA Refuse Drived Fuel (RDF) gasification plant for its Nsukka Campus.

Prof Benjamin Ozumba, UNN Vice-Chancellor, commended the project during its inauguration and said the university would no longer be a customer to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

According to him, the project is first of its kind in Nigeria and another feather added to the cap of the institution.
