We have just received with great disappointment and disillusionment the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its decision to postpone the Presidential/National Assembly and Gubernatorial/House of Assembly Elections to Saturday, February 23, 2019 and Saturday, March 9, 2019, respectively.

INEC gives reason for postponing elections

ABUJA: The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has explained why it postponed the general elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, 16th February, 2019.

The commission shifted the election by one week, explaining how difficult it was for it to shift the general elections. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who briefed journalists at about 2:43am on Saturday, in Abuja, said the commission had met on Friday, 15th February 2019 and reviewed its preparations for the 2019 General Elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, and therefore, shifted the Presidential and National Assembly elections to Saturday, 23rd February 2019.

Organisation to observe Saturday’s elections secretly

THIRD Eye, an organization that monitors the environment secretly during elections is to operate in  Anambra State in today’s (Saturday)election.

It is a pilot programme initiated by Mr. Uche Ubajaka, who is the project coordinator, in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and one of the registered election observers for the 2019 polls.

INEC clarifies on Elections’ postponement

Following rumours that it has postponed the General election scheduled for Saturday, February 16th, 2019, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has spoken on the issues.

As journalists keep vigil at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the chief press secretary to INEC’s chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has informed the newsmen that the commission has taken a decision after a crucial meeting attended by the chairman and 12 national commissioners.

Moves to save guard Nigeria’s democracy has been stepped up with stern warning coming from Britain to politicians in Nigeria through the office of the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ms Catriona Laing.

ABUJA — United Nations, weekend, challenged the Federal Government and all stakeholders in the upcoming general elections to work harder at ensuring that the outcome of the exercise was acceptable to all and sundry.
