More Deaths As Benin Election Protests Continue

A 2nd death was reported on Friday after troops opened fire with live rounds to ‘clear’ a protest in central Benin just days before President Patrice Talon seeks re-election.

The incumbent president, Talon, a cotton magnate who was first elected in 2016, is expected to cruise to an easy victory in Sunday’s ballot with most of his main opponents exiled or disqualified, however, some of the government’s pre-election moves have elicited protests which are mostly coming from opposition bastions mostly in the centre and north of the country.

On Thursday, troops stationed at the protest ground fired tear gas and …

US: Russia Warns Of ‘Scary Consequences’ Over Trump Ban

Donald Trump Suggests Delay To 2020 US Election

US President Donald Trump on Thursday floated an unprecedented delay to the 2020 election — which polls show him losing — but the suggestion drew cross-party fire and has virtually no chance of being accepted.

Trump, who faces Democrat Joe Biden on November 3, has no constitutional authority to change the date, which is set by law.

His mere airing of the idea, however, broke with presidential custom, adding to tension in a country ravaged by fallout from the coronavirus pandemic and set on edge by bitterly partisan politics.

Trump’s rationale was his claim, not backed by evidence, that large-scale …

In November voters are scheduled to head to the polls to select the next president, much of Congress and thousands of state-government candidates. But what could Election Day look like – or if it will even be held …

Trump Outpaces Democratic Rivals In Election Fundraising

Donald Trump’s re-election team on Thursday revealed that he sits atop a staggering campaign war chest, underlining the scale of the challenge facing the US president’s Democratic rivals at the start of an election year.

The sprawling Democratic field meanwhile lost another candidate when Julian Castro, the only Hispanic in the 2020 field, announced he was ending his bid.

That leaves 14 candidates still in the running to take on Trump — and competing for much-needed donations that keep a campaign’s all-important ground game and advertising operations going.
