The candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been declared winners of all the 16 chairmanship seats in the local government election conducted in Ekiti State on Saturday.

The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) yesterday said a total of 14 political parties will participate in today’s local government polls. Ekiti Varsity Sacks 600 Over Illegal Appointment, Others

Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday said it has sacked over 600 members of staff over alleged irregular employment, overage and sundry other allegations.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, said the decision of the university council followed adoption on Thursday of the audit report carried out by a group of external auditors.

Olanipekun, who addressed journalists on resolution of the council meeting in Ado-Ekiti, said the sacking would save about N200m for the university monthly.

Ekiti Residents Wail, As Ureje River Wreaks Havoc

The Ureje River, which runs along the Ado-Ijan Road in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, has earned for itself a scary reputation. The river has brought untold tragedy into the lives of many residents of the area and even strangers unfortunate to encounter its fury recently.

Voters Without PVCs Free To Vote In Ekiti LG Poll Says Govt

The Ekiti State government has formally declared that people who registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) but have lost their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are free to vote in the December 7 local government election in the state.

However, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, rejected the move, saying it contravenes relevant sections of the constitution and the Electoral Act.

The Commissioner for Information, Chief Muyiwa Olumilua, said that residents without voter cards would be allowed to vote during the exercise, as long as they possess either the National Identity Card or driver’s licence.

Robbers Attack UBA In Ekiti, Policeman, Girl Killed (Photo)

A police officer attached to a branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Oye-Ekiti has been shot dead in a robbery attack on Thursday.

A girl, believed to be about five years old, was also killed by the gunmen while on her way back from school.

The gunmen made away with money from the bank’s vault and stole from the customers.

Tragedy struck in Ekiti on Friday evening when residents of Ureje area of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, learnt that  two secondary schools students died inside a  river during a swimming expedition.
Daily Sun gathered that the deceased were students of Ado Grammar school located along Ado-Ijan road.

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has presented the 2020 Appropriation Bill of ₦124, 724,869,355.95 to the House of Assembly. The bill, which is christened ‘Budget of Deliverables’, has ₦53,538,093,806.59 (43 per cent) as capital expenditure, while the recurrent expenditure is ₦71,186,775,549.36 (57 per cent). In a unanimous resolution, Ekiti House of Assembly, yesterday passed a vote-of-confidence in Governor Kayode Fayemi for his achievements in his 365 days in office.

The commendation came following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Gboyega Aribisogan during plenary in Ado-Ekiti.

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has said the payment of counterpart funds by his administration will facilitate the transformation of basic education in the state.
