Mali: ECOWAS, Military Reach Agreement On Transition

The military junta in Mali has agreed with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the proposed transition programme.

ECOWAS had on Friday given the military 12 months to return the country to civilian rule.

This was after the military junta had insisted on a three-year programme.

The military junta has now settled for the formation of a civilian transitional government in the next twelve months.

This was contained in a declaration made available to reporters after a video conference meeting among the Heads of State, the ECOWAS Mediator, former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, and the CNSP leadership.…

The ECOWAS Court of Justice said it has updated its Practice Direction to enable the virtual conduct of Court sessions.

The ECOWAS Court of Justice resumed operations in Abuja, following the easing of lockdown by the host Member-State.

Mr Sunny Ugoh, Head, Communications division of ECOWAS in a statement on Wednesday said however, that the bar on physical filing of applications had yet to be lifted.

S’Leone Dragged To ECOWAS Court Over Missing Ebola Funds

The Sierra Leonian government has been dragged before the ECOWAS Community Court in Abuja over allegation it mismanaged millions of United States Dollars donated to fight the deadly Ebola virus, which killed about 4,000 people the country.

The plaintiffs, a non-governmental organisation – Centre for Accountability and the Rule of Law, and two nurses affected by the virus while giving treatment to affected people, Hawa Jalloh and Fatamata Sesay, had claimed that after Ebola arrived in Sierra Leone in 2014, the government mismanaged and lost millions of US dollars of financial resources earmarked specifically for combating the disease.

The National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS), has advised the Federal Government and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to address corruption and regional cross border trade challenges before adopting ECO Currency.

Mr. Ken Ukaoha, NANTS President, gave the advice on Saturday, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

According to him, the general problem facing the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) must also be addressed.
