UK Minister Douglas Ross Quits Over Dominic Cummings Row

A UK minister, Douglas Ross has resigned as public anger deepens over PM Boris Johnson’s top aide Dominic Cummings’ breaching of the coronavirus lockdown.

Ross, the Minister for Scotland and a Tory whip, announced Tuesday on Twitter he is quitting because he was unconvinced by Mr Cummings’ defence of the journey to Durham.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson backed his senior adviser Dominic Cummings on Sunday, despite calls from within his own Conservative Party for the aide to resign for driving 250 miles during the coronavirus lockdown.

Cummings, an architect of the 2016 campaign to leave the EU, came under pressure when newspapers reported he had traveled from London to northern England in March when his wife was ill with COVID-19 symptoms during a nationwide lockdown.
