US Coronavirus Doctor Commits Suicide

A top emergency room doctor at a major Manhattan hospital that treated coronavirus patients died by suicide on Sunday, according to her father.

Dr. Lorna M. Breen, the medical director of the emergency department at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, died in Charlottesville, Va., where she was staying with family, her father said in an interview.

Her father, Dr. Philip C. Breen, said she had described devastating scenes of the toll the coronavirus took on patients.

“She tried to do her job, and it killed her,” he said.

The Pakistani doctor who helped the CIA track and kill Osama bin Laden has launched a hunger strike from his prison cell, his lawyer and family said Monday.

Shakeel Afridi has been languishing behind bars for years since his fake vaccination programme helped US agents track and kill the Al Qaeda leader in 2011.

“It is to protest the injustices and inhumane attitudes being committed against him and his family,” his brother Jamil Afridi told AFP after meeting with Afridi in a prison in central Punjab province.

A medical doctor, who is currently serving as a house officer at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, has tested positive to Lassa fever.

The doctor, whose identity is yet to be revealed, according to the management of the hospital, is currently undergoing treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Irua, Edo State.

The Jigawa State Ministry of Health says it has quarantined one medical personnel at Jahun Local Government Area, Dr. Anthony Etim on suspicions of Lassa fever.

The Acting Permanent Secretary of the ministry Salisu Mu’azu, confirmed this to newsmen.

He said the victim is a staff of Medecins Sans Frontieres, also known as Doctors without borders.

The police in Abia State have arrested a native doctor and four other kidnap suspects who had been terrorising residents of Isiala Ngwa and commuters within the Isiala Ngwa axis of the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway.

Donald Trump’s doctor on Monday denied reports that the US president had recently suffered chest pain after he attended an unannounced medical checkup in Washington.

Trump, 73, spent just over an hour on Saturday having “examinations, labs and discussions” at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, his physician Sean Conley said in a statement issued by the White House.

SA: Doctor Shoots Wife In The Head, In Front Of Kids

A doctor is in hospital after being shot in the head, allegedly by her estranged husband, who is also a doctor, in Summerstand, Port Elizabeth, over the weekend, police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Capt Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the woman, 36, and her sister went to the house on Saturday morning to fetch some of her belongings, when they were attacked by her husband.

“A shot was fired, injuring the woman in her head,” Van Rensburg said. The woman survived the shooting and was taken to hospital.
