Flood: 115 Nigerians Killed, 500,000 Displaced In 2022

The heavy wave of flooding which began at the start of the year has claimed the lives of no fewer than 115 Nigerians, Africa Daily News, New York has learnt.

As confirmed by the presidency on Tuesday, at least 73,370 people have been displaced and 277 injured due to the ugly natural disaster.

A statement submitted that President Muhammadu Buhari is receiving regular updates on the situation which has affected over 500,000 Nigerians.

His spokesman Garba Shehu promised that the federal government will continue to provide assistance to individuals and communities hit by the disaster.

Floods are a constant threat to millions of people in Bangladesh’s low-lying areas, but researchers warn climate change is increasing the frequency, fury, and unpredictability of these natural disasters.

Over the last week, torrential rains have inundated large swaths of Bangladesh’s northeast, forcing military to evacuate families blocked off from neighbouring settlements.

Schools have been converted into relief shelters to house entire villages inundated by rivers that burst their banks in a couple of hours.

Landmine Explosion Kills Eleven In Syria

No fewer than eleven people were killed and dozens left wounded when their pick-up truck ran over a landmine near Syria’s southern city of Daraa, a war monitor disclosed on Sunday.

‘Eleven people, including five children under 16 and three women, were killed and around 34 people were injured’ in the explosion, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, adding that some were in critical condition.

Most of the victims were labourers harvesting wheat, Syria’s official SANA news agency disclosed.

Heavy floods has taken several parts of Malaysia after the country was hit by bouts of bad weather over the weekend, even as continuous rain swamped towns on the peninsula’s east coast.

Bandits attack: 2,277 people displaced in Niger

Three Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps are currently set up by the villagers displaced in the armed bandit attacks in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.

The Nation learnt that over 2,277 people were displaced in eight communities in Shiroro local government area.
