Europe Confronts Rising Drone Threat At Danish Summit

When Europe’s leaders touched down in Copenhagen this week, they did so under the shadow of a new kind of threat. Airports across Denmark had only just resumed normal operations after unexplained drone activity disrupted flights and rattled the country’s airspace. The timing could not have been sharper: within days, dozens of presidents and prime ministers would gather for back-to-back summits on security and cooperation.

Denmark responded with extraordinary measures. Civilian drone flights were banned, air traffic was heavily restricted, and foreign troops quietly deployed radar and counter-drone systems. A German frigate even dropped anchor in Copenhagen’s harbor, a reminder …

Denmark began reopening schools for younger children on Wednesday after a month-long closure to combat the novel coronavirus, becoming the first country in Europe to do so.

Nurseries, kindergartens and primary schools were restarting after they were officially closed on March 17 in an effort to curb the COVID-19 epidemic, though many had shut before then.

Denmark Redeploys Troops To Kuwait

Denmark says it will temporarily redeploy most of its 130-strong forces from Iraq to neighbouring Kuwait for security reasons.

About 30 to 40 Danish troops are to remain at the Ain al-Asaad Airbase in Western Iraq, while others are to be redeployed to neighbouring Kuwait, NAN reports.

“It is a temporary move. The move follows an Iranian missile attack on Iraq,” he added.

Iran launched over 15 missiles on US targets in Iraq in retaliation for the death of Qassem Soleimani, who was buried on Tuesday.

Iraq added that “two of the 17 missiles targeting Ain al-Asad base did not go off.

“The five on Erbil all targeted coalition headquarters.”

Iran had since issued a strong warning that any US …
