Organised Labour has faulted the pronouncement of Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige that the federal government would only be able to pay the minimum wage if it retrenched some workers.

Ngige declared last week that the federal government would not be able to meet the demand of organised labour on the percentage for consequential adjustment of the ₦30,000 new minimum wage owing to dwindling revenue.

The Lagos state government has been sued for unlawful detention by the 123 men from Jigawa State who were detained by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit) on Monday.

As farmers across the country continue to count their losses arising from the destruction of their crops and farmlands by herders, cultivators in eight of the hardest-hit states claim that about N284 billion worth of products were destroyed.

MTN chief faults AGF on $2b tax demand

MTN Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rob Shuter yesterday faulted the demand for $2 billion cash by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF).

It accused AGF Abubakar Malami, of “playing games” over the demand for the cash, which the government said was in tax arrears from the telecoms giant.

Shuter spoke at a conference call where MTN’s 2018 annual results were presented to the country’s executives and stakeholders.
