Insecurity: Self Defence Is Justifiable – Akande

Former Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Bisi Akande, on Thursday, said there was nothing wrong in people putting mechanism for self defence in place to secure life and property.

He said: “Self defence is the first law of nature, there is nothing wrong in securing one’s abode through different means, including engaging the service of private guards to protect life and property.”

The former Osun State Governor made this known while speaking with newsmen during his 81st birthday celebration held at his ancestral home in Ila-orangun.

Kobayashi Warms Up For Four Hill Defence With Swiss Victory

World Cup ski jumping champion Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan warmed up for his Four Hills title defence with a second victory of the season at Engelberg on Sunday.

Albania Earthquake Death Toll Hits 40: Defence Ministry

The death toll from the most powerful earthquake to strike Albania in decades rose to 40 on Thursday, after 10 more bodies were pulled from the rubble overnight, the defence ministry said.

The 6.4 magnitude earthquake rattled the Balkan state before dawn on Tuesday, levelling buildings and trapping bodies underneath the wreckage in towns near the Adriatic coast.

“Ten more victims were found during the night, bringing the number of dead to 40,” the ministry said in a statement.

NASS To Adjust Defence Budget To Meet Security Challenges

The Chairman Senate Committee, Army, Sen. Ali Ndume on Thursday said the National Assembly will adjust the defense budget to meet current security challenges in the country.

Ndume said in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna that the allocation for the Armed Forces contained in the 2020 budget proposal before the National Assembly was grossly inadequate in view of the current security challenges.

Civil Defence nabs Borno 7-man forgery syndicate

The Borno State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested seven people, who specialised in forging fake school certificates and security documents.

The Commandant, Mr Abdullahi Ibrahim, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Monday.

He said that the suspects were arrested on Aug. 21 at the Post Office area of Maiduguri by the anti-fraud unit of the command.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin yesterday defended the action taken by the military during the general elections.The Gen.

Olanisakin noted that if such actions were not taken and deployment of the military personnel made, the security situation of the country would have been jeopardised.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja during the orientation programme for senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect, Gen Olonisakin noted that the deployment of the army during the election was constitutional.

2019 Budget Defence: FAAN proposes ₦101.6bn

Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, (FAAN) has proposed a total budget of N101.6 billion for 2019.

The Managing Director, Mr Saleh Dunoma, made the disclosure while defending the 2019 budget proposals of the Authority before the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, the Authority is proposing for 2019 a Budget of N101.67 billion as against N88,805,462,776 for 2018 which gives a 14.5 per cent increase.

Defence Corps arrest 52-year-old man for impregnating niece

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Thursday arrested Dennis Agya Kiyeye, 52, for impregnating and attempting to murder his niece.

The suspect allegedly defiled and impregnated the 15-year-old niece at Ilupeju village in Gbonyin Local Government area of Ekiti state.
