Amotekun: Akeredolu Reacts As Govt Declares Outfit ‘Illegal

Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu has reacted to the statement by the federal government describing south-west security outfit ‘Operation Amotekun’ as illegal.

In a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Dr Umar Gwandu, the government said the establishment of Amotekun is not backed by any known law in the land.

“The setting up of the paramilitary organization called “Amotekun” is illegal and runs contrary to the provisions of the Nigerian law.

The Supreme Court has declared Senator Hope Uzodimma as governor of Imo State.

The seven-member panel of justices today held that Emeka Ihedioha was not duly elected Governor.

Earlier in the day, the issue of candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Imo state has forced one of the candidates, Uche Nwosu, to withdraw his appeal at the Supreme Court. Nwosu, who decamped to the Action Alliance (AA) before the election, was said to have also been presented by a faction of the APC as the party’s candidate in the election.

Amotekun: NBA Declares Position

As controversy rages over the establishment of a joint security outfit codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’, the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA), Ado Ekiti chapter, has declared that the Southwest Governors, had not breached any section of the 1999 constitution for establishing the security network.

NANS Declares War On Politicians Sharing Foreign Rice

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Monday said it is ready to embark on foreign rice hunt, with a threat to deal with any politician in possession of the imported rice.

NANS said any foreign rice found in the coffers of politicians during this festive period shall be combatantly taken over and shared to both students and orphanage homes.

Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on Monday declared three days of mourning after a militant attack on an army base killed more than 40 soldiers last week in one of the deadliest strikes on the country’s military.
Islamic State-allied militants claimed Friday’s attack on Indelimane base in the northeast of the country near the border with Niger, which authorities say killed at 49 soldiers.

It was the latest assault on target Mali’s military which is struggling to contain an Islamist insurgency that began in the north and spread to the centre of the country. At least 40 troops were
