The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Diri, has noted with dismay the brutal killings of no fewer than eight members of the party by thugs suspected to be from the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a botched rally in Nembe Ogbolomabiri on Wednesday.
Senator Diri, in an interview with reporters in Yenagoa, condemned the violence and prayed for repose of the souls of those who were murdered by the armed thugs.
Among the dead was the driver of the OB Van of Radio Bayelsa, Mr Simon Onu, who was gunned down beside his vehicle.

The Senate came under fire yesterday for proposing the Hate Speech Prohibition Bill, which seeks to criminalise the offence with death as a penalty.
The bill, which passed first reading at the plenary yesterday, seeks to establish a federal government agency to check hate speech.

A commercial sex worker was at the weekend, stabbed dead by a customer at the popular Edo Hotel, Atan street, Empire area of Surulere, Lagos.

A young man was found stabbed to death at a homeless shelter in Manhattan early Sunday, police said.
Two men were discovered with knife wounds by police responding to a 911 call at Basics Housing Men’s Homeless Shelter on West 83rd Street near Columbus Ave. on the Upper West Side at about 1:50 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.
The victim, 22, whose name was not immediately released, was found on the building’s third floor with multiple stab wounds to his body, cops said.
