China Validates Death Sentence Of US Citizen Over Murder

A Chinese court has upheld the death penalty for a US citizen over the murder of his girlfriend, calling the conviction ‘accurate’ and sentence ‘appropriate’.

Shadeed Abdulmateen had been found guilty in April of stabbing the 21-year-old woman in the face and neck multiple times when they met to talk about disagreements in their relationship.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that he had at that point appealed against the death sentence handed to him.

But a higher court in eastern China on Thursday rebuffed Abdulmateen’s appeal, according to an official statement.

It was a new dawn for the Malaysian government as it finally assented to plans to abolish the mandatory death penalty, with campaigners welcoming the move but cautioning the Government that had failed to deliver on previous vows to improve rights.

Sierra Leone Formally Abolishes Death Penalty

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has assented to a bill abolishing the death penalty in the country, becoming the latest African state to ban capital punishment. 

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that lawmakers in the West African country had voted to end capital punishment in July, replacing the punishment with life imprisonment or a minimum 30-year jail term.

‘As a nation, we have today exorcised horrors of a cruel past,’ Bio said in a statement, adding that capital punishment is ‘inhumane’.

‘We today affirm our belief in the sanctity of life,’ he added.

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani-Bello yesterday signed the death penalty by hanging for cattle rustlers, bandits, kidnappers, and informants into law in the State.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that the Niger State House of Assembly had on July 1, passed into law a bill prescribing death penalty for informants, kidnappers, and cattle rustlers in the State.

Bello said the Kidnapping and cattle rustling special provisions law of 2016 was amended to provide for the punishment of informants and all those involved in the aiding and abetting of kidnapping and cattle rustling in the state.
