The popular saying that a prophet has no honour in his home town could not apply in Anambra state as town unions in the state rolled out the drums to honour a long list of illustrious sons and daughters of the state.

Those recognised during the 2019 edition of the annual service award of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) in Awka, last Saturday, were adjudged to have distinguished themselves in their various professions, and also used their resources for the benefit of humanity.

I just read the contribution of Professor Stephen Banji Akintoye, a notable and respected historian, to the burning debate about the origin and meaning of the word Yoruba. I scrutinised his arguments and I considered his sources. I welcome his submissions but I respectfully disagree with his conclusions. Following the killing of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Afenifere Chairman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, by persons suspected to be herdsmen in Ondo State, yesterday, a youth group, Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA), while expressing shock over the incident, has given Miyetti Allah a three-day ultimatum to fish out the perpetrators of the nefarious act.
