NSCDC Seize Over 1,900 Expired Gas Cylinders In Kaduna

In a bid to forestall disasters arising from further explosion of gas cylinders, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kaduna State command in collaboration with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), on Thursday, commenced evacuation of decommissioned LPG gas cylinders in the state.

So far, the exercise has witnessed the retrieval of 1,931 decommissioned cylinders and eight suspects have been arrested from three different locations in the metropolis.

Explosions: SON, Stakeholders Set To Re-Qualify Cylinders

As part of efforts to stem the rising wave of gas explosions and in line with its mandate to ensure the safety of lives and property across the country, the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) has disclosed that it has opened collaborative talks with gas plant owners and other relevant stakeholders in order to commence the re-qualification of used gas cylinders.

Stop Using 12.5kg Cylinders As Camp Gas – Nigerians Warned

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has cautioned Nigerians to stay away from used gas cylinders because they are potential bombs waiting to explode.

The standard agency issued the warning following the seizure of five thousand imported LPG Cylinders that failed standards specifications.

Describing the cylinders as highly dangerous to use, it was noted that higher cylinder capacities like 12.5 kg and above can not be used as camp gas.
