Kano And Jigawa Customs Area Command Rakes In ₦14bn Revenue

Reports reveleaded by the Kano and Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have shown that they have generated more than ₦14 billion between January and April in 2022.

This report was made by the Area Command’s Comptroller who made the statement while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Kano.

He noted that the service collected more than ₦14 billion from January to April 2022, compared to the N9.6 billion it collected in 2021 and this represented a 44.9 percent increase.

Nigeria Customs Intercept ₦1.2bn Cannabis – Largest Single Bust’

Operatives of the Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have intercepted drugs suspected to be Cannabis Sativa valued at ₦1,002,050,000 during a seagoing patrol on Lagos waters.

The Controller of the command, Comptroller Olugboyega Peters, revealed this in a statement in Lagos on Thursday.

Peters described the seizure as the “largest single seizure” of such drugs on the waters in the history of the Nigeria Customs.

Customs Impound ₦20m Container Load Of Pirated Books

A container load of suspected pirated books, valued at over ₦20 million, belonging to different publishers, has been impounded in a joint operation by Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

The container with a consignment number CMAU171419/9 had been imported by a forwarding agent, Blessnta Investment Ltd of No. 4, Okuntola Street, Mushin, Lagos for a consignee, identified as Onyigold Logistics Services Ltd of Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos.

2020 Budget: Senate Okays ₦238.15bn For Customs

The Senate, on Tuesday, okayed the sum of ₦238,149,325,832.70 for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for 2020 fiscal budget.

This approval was sequel to an adoption of the presentation by the committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and subsequent consideration at plenary.

The federal government’s border closure, increased surveillance by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Anchors Borrowers Programme (ABP) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have dropped the volume of foreign rice in Nigerian markets.

A report released on Sunday by Economic Confidential puts the figure at 37 percent, down from 70 percent as at March/April 2019.

Border Closure: Customs Seize 42 Bags Of Foreign Rice

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it has intercepted 42 bags of foreign rice at Kankara axis of Katsina State.

The Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Mr Sunday James, who disclosed this in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Saturday in Abuja, said that it was concealed in a vehicle.

James said that the officers were on routine patrol along the Kankara axis when they apprehended a vehicle carrying the contraband.

Customs Command Surpasses Revenue Target

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Area II Command, Onne Port, Rivers State has announced that it generated a total revenue of ₦107.336 million from duty paid on imported goods in 2019. This, it stated in a statement, surpasses its annual target of ₦95.711 million for last year by ₦11.642 million.

Recruitment: Customs Releases Shortlisted Candidates

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disclosed that 162,399 applicants have been shortlisted for its aptitude test.

NCS stated that those shortlisted were among the 828,333 that applied for various positions in 2019.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer, NCS, Deputy Comptroller Joseph Attah on Monday said the shortlisted candidates have been notified through their email addresses and telephone numbers.

The House of Representatives on Friday approved the budget of the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) with the approval of N9.4billion to the commission to complete the Customs Head Office Complex.

The House Committee on Supply approved a total budget of N283.1billion of the Customs for the year 2020.

The approval is coming in the wake of the controversial N37billion approved for the renovation of the National Assembly in the 2020 budget.

Operatives of the Border Drill Operations of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have reportedly seized 140 bags of foreign rice at a warehouse in Daura.

The warehouse allegedly belongs to Alhaji Habu Sarkin-Fulani.
