The curtains fell, last week, on Atiku Abubakar’s spirited bid to have the courts overturn the February 23 election of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office. The Court of Appeal in Sokoto has upheld the election of Aliyu Wamakko as senator representing Sokoto North district.

The appellate court in its ruling dismissed the appeal brought by Ahmed Mohammed Maccido of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP).

The hope of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to regain the Nembe/ Brass Federal Constituency seat and the Bayelsa East Senatorial District seat has been dashed as the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed the ruling of the Bayelsa Elections Petitions Tribunal which upheld the victory of Hon Israel Sunny-Goli for Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency and Senator Degi-Eremienyo for Bayelsa East.

The Court of Appeal in Sokoto has upheld the election of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko,  represeting Sokoto North Senatorial District.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna, yesterday, reserved judgment for November  7, on the appeal filled by Alhaji Isah Ashiru, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the March 9  election.

Ashiru and the PDP had approached the Appeal Court to challenge the verdict of the Kaduna State Governorship Tribunal that upheld the return of Governor Nasiru El-Rufai of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as duly elected by majority and lawful votes.

The Supreme Court on Monday struck out a referral appeal praying the court to determine the constitutionality or otherwise of the removal of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The referral appeal filed by Dr Samuel Nwawka was struck out by Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who led five justices after the appellant failed to appear and was not legally represented.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday ruled out any mass defections in the party due to the outcome of the Supreme Court judgment that dismissed the party’s presidential election petition against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Few days after Justice Abdul Dogo of the Federal High Court, Akure, Ondo State, regained his freedom from Kidnappers, suspected gunmen yesterday in Benin City, abducted Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme of the Court of Appeal, Benin Division.

The gunmen also killed her police orderly before taking her away to an unknown destination.
