Senate Summons Niger Delta Minister Over Alleged ₦480B Fraud

The Nigerian Senate has summoned the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, over an alleged plot to divert ₦480 billion intervention fund which belongs to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and domiciled it in the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, without the approval of the National Assembly.

The Minister has been told to appear before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator Ayo Akinyelure (PDP Ondo Central) upon receipt of petition being investigated by the panel.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has announced that it cannot sanction the suspended Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, over his alleged involvement in an ₦80bn fraud because he is not even a member of the body.

The suspended Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has regained his freedom after he was released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This development was confirmed to reporters by EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren.

The Federal Government has reacted to the Transparency International Corruption perceptions Index released on Thursday

THISDAY had reported that Nigeria dropped two steps below on the 2019 Transparency International Corruption Perception Index.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami SAN; the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu and Chairman Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, to fast-track prosecution of all cases of corruption in the electricity sector and ensure recovery of stolen public funds.
