P/Harcourt In Total Darkness, As Angry Youths Shut Afam Power Station

The acting Manager, Corporate Communications, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, Mrs. Chioma Aninwe, has said angry youths have shut down a power station.

She stated that the youths in the late hours of Friday, forcefully took over control of the Afam power station belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria which has resulted in a total blackout in Rivers State.

According to Aninwe who spoke with Journalists on Saturday, “The youths, known as Oyibo Youths, shutdown Afam Transmission lines around 21:04 p.m. on Friday, thereby, throwing the entire Port Harcourt and Rivers state into darkness.

Stop The Retrenchment Now, CBN Orders Banks

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has ordered banks to stop any form of retrenchment of workers now.

Isaac Okorafor Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, said the apex Bankers’ Committee both decided to suspend lay-offs in banks.

The statement said that in order to help minimize and mitigate the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on families and livelihoods, no bank in Nigeria shall retrench or lay-off any staff of any cadre (including full-time and part-time).”
