Libya Reports Highest COVID-19 Cases For Single Day

Libya on Monday reported more than 1,000 new coronavirus infections, the highest tally for a single day since the conflict-ravaged country announced its first cases in late March.

“Of the 4,291 tests performed on Sunday, 1,080 were positive,” said the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), a Tripoli-based government agency.

The figure brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the North African country to 18,834, including 16,376 who required hospitalisation, 2,162 patients who recovered and 296 deaths.

Trump To Hold Another Rally Amid Pandemic

U.S. President Donald Trump will hold another large rally in support of his re-election campaign, even though the number of coronavirus infections is on the rise again in several states.

According to Trump’s campaign team, he will be speaking to supporters at an open-air rally at Portsmouth airport in New Hampshire on Saturday (July 11), adding that masks would be provided.

All guests must agree at registration that they “voluntarily accept all risks” that could result from a coronavirus infection and Trump’s campaign assumes no liability for this.

Lagos Records Sharp Drop In Coronavirus Infections

Respite has come the way of Lagos, as the state recorded sharp drop in Coronavirus infections on Saturday, with 33 new cases.

In the figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Nigeria recorded 87 new cases, with Lagos taking the lion share of 33.

On Friday, the state ramps up its highest coronavirus infection figures since the pandemic started, which stood at 80.

Between April 20 and 25, Lagos has consistently experienced increase in infections, ramping up 291 cases.

Italy Extends Lockdown Until ‘At Least’ April 12

Italy on Monday extended an economically crippling lockdown until “at least” mid-April to stem coronavirus infections that have claimed a world-leading 11,591 lives.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said any easing of containment measures would be done incrementally to ensure Italy does not give up gains it has made against the extraordinary disease.

The near three-week shutdown “had been very tough economically,” Conte told Spain’s El Pais newspaper.
