Buhari Reacts To Nigeria’s Performance At Commonwealth Games

Following the soul-lifting performance of Team Nigeria at the 22nd Commonwealth Games, Birmingham 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari has described the feat as a parting gift to him which he is quite grateful for. 

Buhari made this known in a statement issued by his media aide Femi Adesina which was obtained by Africa Daily News, New York.

‘We are proud of these achievements and the memories will linger with the nation forever and for me this is a special moment and a fitting parting gift, being my last Commonwealth Games as Head of State,’ Sunday’s statement quoted Buhari as saying.

In another moment of glory, Nwachukwu Goodness on Thursday night claimed a gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s E42.44/61.64 discus throw at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

While doing so, Nwachukwu also set a world record with her throw of 36.56m.

In the contest, Sarah Edminston of Australia came second while Naibili Vanutisolo of Fiji Island took the third position.

In the men’s lightweight para powerlifting, Nnamdi Innocent bagged a bronze medal for the nation. The Nigerian lifted 132.5kg.
