UK High Commission Reopens Visa Application Centers In Nigeria

The United Kingdom High Commission has announced that its center’s across the country has reopened.

Africa Daily News, New York had reported that the commission had shut down its centers across Nigeria following the ongoing nationwide protest in the country.

It also closed its TLS contact visa application centres in the country.

However, in a statement released via its official Twitter account on Monday, the Commission announced that its visa application centers in Victoria Island, Abuja and Lagos have reopened.

Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has condemned the demolition of a building owned by the Nigerian High Commission by alleged “unknown persons”.

Nigeria says it is engaging Ghana over the incident.The apartments under construction were demolished on Friday.

They were to serve as quarters for staff and visiting diplomats to the High Commission.

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has reacted to the US President’s order to his administration to halt funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

President Donald Trump had on Tuesday said he had instructed his administration to halt funding to the WHO.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has lauded the police and other security agencies for their professional conduct during the governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi.

Mr Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, gave the commendation in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Reps Committee Appeals To Commission To Spend 2019 Budget

The House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora has appealed to the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-formal Education (NMAC) to utilise the 2019 budget allocation that was released to it.
The committee, chaired by Rep. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe (APC-Oyo), made the appeal during the commission’s budget presentation on Monday.

Prof. Abba Haladu, Executive Secretary of the commission said that out of the approved budget of more than ₦900 million, ₦222 million was made available to the commission in September.

Haladu said that out of the ₦222 million released, the commission had only spent ₦8 million on planned projects.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has called for financial autonomy for State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) for timely conduct of credible council elections across the country.Yakubu made the call yesterday during a parley with members of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions of Nigeria (FOSIECON) at INEC headquarters, Abuja.

The 1999 Constitution empowers SIECs to conduct council elections while INEC conducts elections into federal, state legislative and governorship seats.

INEC boss ignores tribunal as commission tenders documents

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday tendered the documents required by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal had on Wednesday subpoenaed the INEC boss, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Zamfara State to appear with the documents relating to the February 23, 2019 poll. But Yakubu did not appear before the tribunal yesterday.

The Kaduna State Government said it would set up a judicial commission of inquiry into the recurring killings in Kajuru and Kachia Local Government Areas of the state.
