Fears In China Over New Cases, Weeks After Slow Down

China on Monday reported the highest number of new Coronavirus cases in nearly six weeks.

This occurred as the country battles to prevent more COVID-19 infections, weeks after containing the pandemic.

No fewer than 108 people tested positive in the past 24 hours, Dpa reports.

The figure includes 98 travellers returning from abroad, according to the National Health Commission.

There are concerns about a resurgence of the disease since March 6, when authorities counted 143 new cases.

China now focuses on citizens returning from abroad.

A 15-member medical team from China will arrive in Nigeria today. The Chinese medical team will arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, via a chattered Air Peace aircraft.

They are coming to Nigeria despite opposition by the Nigerian Medical Association.

Coronavirus Infections Records Low Numbers In China

China where the coronavirus outbreak first emerged in December reported dwindling new infections on Wednesday.

For the first time it disclosed the number of asymptomatic cases which could complicate how trends in the outbreak are read.

Almost all of Tuesday’s 36 new cases involved arrivals from overseas, the National Health Commission said, down from 48 a day earlier and taking total infections to 81,554.

But that figure excludes 130 new sufferers of the highly contagious disease who do not show symptoms, its statistics showed.

China’s Foreign Ministry announced Friday the temporary suspension of all entries into the country from Saturday.

The entry restriction came as the coronavirus pandemic hits over 540,000 people worldwide and the United States upstaged China  and Italy as the new epicentre of the virus.
