Libya: Three Children Killed, Others Injured By Air Strike

At least three children were killed and eight civilians wounded Monday in an airstrike on a residential neighbourhood near the Capital of Libya, the health ministry said.

Spokesman Lamine al-Hachemi said another child was seriously wounded and the parents of the dead children were also injured in the airstrike that hit their home in Al-Fernaj, a suburb southeast of Tripoli.

Five other civilians were wounded in the attack.

Libya’s UN-recognised Government of National Accord accused forces of strongman Khalifa Haftar of launching the “criminal” airstrike.

As the World marks Day Against the Death Penalty, Human Rights Law Service (HURILAWS) and Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP) on Thursday drew attention to the negative impact of the death penalty on children.

October 10 has over the years been slated as World Day Against the Death Penalty. It is a day set aside every year to advocate the abolition of the death penalty and raise awareness on the conditions and the circumstances which affect prisoners on death sentence. U.S. moves to release migrant children faster from custody

The Trump administration is again changing the way it vets people who want to sponsor minors who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border alone in an effort to speed up the release of thousands of migrant children currently in U.S. custody.

Under the change, announced to staff on Friday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which houses unaccompanied migrant children, will no longer require an immigration records check on potential sponsors already backgrounded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
