Fani-Kayode Reacts To News Of Leah Sharibu’s Child Birth

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, on Sunday reacted to reports that abducted Dapchi schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu has converted to Islam and had given birth for a Boko Haram Commander.

Fani-Kayode expressed the belief that Sharibu was been demeaned, adding that the abducted schoolgirl would rather die than be converted.

Recall that Boko Haram had abducted Sharibu from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe state on February 19, 2018.

However, reports emerged on Saturday night that Leah was forcefully converted to Islam and 

Sotitobire: 39-Yr-Old Man Remanded Over Missing Child

A 39-year-old Chibuzor Elike was on Monday remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Facility over his claim of having in his custody, Gold Kolawole, the one-year-old, boy who got missing at the Sotitobire Miracle Centre Akure in November 2019.

Elike, who was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure on a three count charge, was last week arrested by detectives from the Ondo State Police Command in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Prophet Alfa Remanded In Prison Over Ondo Missing Child

The founder of Sotitobire Miracle Centre, Prophet Babatunde Alfa has been remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre.

Prophet Alfa who was dragged before an Akure Magistrate Court on Monday by the Department of State Security, DSS, was accused of allegedly being involved in the mysterious disappearance of a one-year-old boy, Gold Kolawole from his church.

The embattled Prophet was ordered to be remanded in prison by Magistrate Charity Adeyanju alongside six workers of the church who were said to be manning the church’s children department when the incident occurred.

A powerful earthquake hit the southern Philippines island of Mindanao on Sunday, killing a child, injuring dozens and damaging buildings in an area still recovering from a string of deadly quakes in October.

Tanzania Court Upholds Ruling To Ban Child Marriage

A Tanzanian court has upheld a ruling banning the marriage of girls under the age of 18 and won praise from rights activists.

The High Court in 2016 ruled that laws allowing girls as young as 15 to be married with the permission of their parents, or even 14 with the permission of a court, were unconstitutional and discriminatory.

However, the state had appealed.

“We reject this appeal as it has no foundation,” the appeals court judges wrote in their ruling on Wednesday, giving the government one year to amend the law.

A recent study has revealed that Nigeria has the highest number of under-five child mortality among low and middle-income countries, as about 789, 037 children die before their fifth birthday.

The study, which also revealed that about 15, 000 children die every day worldwide, showed that despite progress made in achieving the United Nations’ target for child survival by countries, about 789, 037 children died before age five in 2017 as compared to 1,011,620 deaths in 2000.
