The Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, has pointed out that the boundaries between Nigeria and neighbouring countries are artificial in every sense of it.

He made this assertion while speaking at a reception he organised in honour of the two principal officers of the president recently honoured by the President of Niger, Mohammed Bazoum.

Chad And CAR Agree To Joint Investigation Over Border Attack

An attack that killed no fewer than six Chadian soldiers at a border post with the Central African Republic (CAR) will be jointly investigated by the two countries after a high-level meeting yesterday appeared to ease tensions.

Chad has blamed the CAR army for the attack, and says five of the soldiers were abducted then executed in the incident on Sunday, which it labelled a ‘war crime’ that would ‘not go unpunished’.

CAR had put the blame on rebels it said its soldiers had been pursuing.

The African Union has appealed to all relevant stakeholders to do everything possible to ensure a possible end to military rule in Chad, whose president was killed by rebels a fortnight ago.

Shortly after the death of the former dictator, the army immediately announced that Idriss Déby’s son would head a military council for 18 months before elections were held.

The recent twist is that former colonial power France, which has a large military base in Chad, appears to back the takeover for ‘stability‘ amid ‘exceptional circumstances‘.
